In the book, The Bean Trees, Marietta leaves her hometown to start a new life. Since she is wanting to start a new life, she also decided to change her name so that she could be a whole new person. People then called her Taylor, she thought it fit so well. On her journey to start her new life, she came across an infant, who they called Turtle. Taylor and Turtle had many hardships on their journey to their new life. Once they finally reached there destiny, Tucson, Arizona, Taylor met Ms. Ruiz. They were both single mothers, but Taylor didn't know the identity of Turtle. They did research to find the childs background but then Taylor gets custody of Turtle. There new life could now start.
